Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I advertise on Jobreel?
Jobreel is a targeted job board. We aim squarely at the top end of the Australian technology industry and placing an ad here will get it seen by the kind of people you want to employ.
You could pay more and post on Seek but then your ad will be swamped by ten thousand others from less selective employers, and attract nearly as many mediocre applications. Jobreel is promoted to the cream of Australian talent, and because other great employers advertise on Jobreel knowledgable job-seekers look here first.
Jobreel brings a little bit of web goodness to your search for employees. You can personalise your ad with photos of your office, products and people. New postings are available via RSS feeds or email. And (coming soon) posts can be easily shared with social networks and new communication mediums.
Who will see my ad?
Jobreel is promoted where Australia's best technologists hang out such as conferences, universities, technical interest groups and their online equivalents. We have ties with computing schools, student societies and careers offices at numerous Australian universities including the University of NSW, University of Sydney, UTS, University of Tasmania and Edith Cowan University.
How much does it cost? For how long will my ad be visible?
Posting a job ad costs $90 (+ GST) and a gig costs just $20, paid up-front via our secure web payment gateway. Each ad runs on the front page for 30 days (or until you remove it).
Why must the employing company be identified?
Top-class technologists care a lot about where they work and generally don't like dealing with third-party recruiters. They're not short of choice and they won't bother applying for agency jobs. Your company name should be an asset to your ad.
Posts that don't identify the employer (not just an agency) will be promptly removed.
What's the difference between a job and a gig?
Jobs are long-term or permanent employment. If you're looking for an employee for keeps you should post on the job board.
Gigs are short-term freelance, casual, contract or consulting positions. If you're looking for a mercenary, designer, advisor or consultant to prototype or drive home a project you should post on the gig board. Because you probably have less to invest in a short-term position, gig ads are (much!) cheaper. Please don't abuse this to post your permanent position as a gig: it won't be seen by people seeking jobs (and would reflect poorly on your company).
When will my ad appear?
Ads are sent live immediately. A human will check your post later on to make sure you're playing by the rules (above).
Can I update my ad after it's been posted?
Yes. When you post an ad we'll send you a password you can use to log in and monitor your posts. You can edit your post on the spot, add photos, or remove it if the position has been filled. We save all your posts in case you want to run a similar ad again later.
Who are you? What are you doing in my computer?
Jobreel is run by Deep Grey Labs, a Sydney-based startup (developers of tiinker). We noticed that almost every time a group of entrepreneurs and technologists get together there is much complaining about how hard it is to find good people (especially for gigs), and whenever talented people are seeking cool places to work they complain of the avalanche of boring, faceless job ads in the traditional places.
So, inspired by similar boards elsewhere, we decided to do something about it. We know there are lots of great people and great companies in Australia, they just need help finding each other.
